Preparing Your Omaha Home for Storm Season
By Milberger Agency · September 30, 2026
Anyone who's lived in eastern Nebraska for a season knows the sky can turn in a hurry. Wind, hail, and severe thunderstorms are simply part of life here — which makes a little preparation well worth the effort.
Start with a home inventory. Walk through your house with your phone and take photos or video of your rooms, valuables, and big-ticket items. If you ever have to file a claim, that record makes proving your loss far easier and faster.
Next, check your wind and hail deductible. Many home policies in our area carry a separate deductible for wind and hail damage — often a percentage of your home's value rather than a flat amount. Knowing how yours works before a storm beats finding out afterward.
Then handle the basics outside: clear your gutters, trim branches that could fall, and secure anything in the yard that could become airborne. Give your roof a look, too, since that's where hail does its most expensive work.
Finally, keep our number handy. If a storm does cause damage, document it with photos right away and reach out — we'll help you understand your coverage and start the claim.
A calm afternoon of prep can save you a headache when the next warning siren sounds. If you're not sure how your policy handles storm damage, let's review it together.
